What is the connection between the negligence of sustainability and pandemic spread?

We hardly ever thought before that our way of interacting with nature may devastate our present as well as the future. In 2019, the Global Preparedness Monitoring Board published the report “A World At Risk,” claiming “there is a very real threat of a rapidly moving, highly lethal pandemic of a respiratory pathogen killing 50 to 80 million people and wiping out nearly 5% of the world’s economy. … The world is at risk*. The pandemic we are going through is the prime example that we require fundamental changes in our ways of interacting with nature. We all know that sustainability strengthens nature’s harmony, but our negligence of sustainable choices has led us to extreme devastation. We can adapt the following measures to improve sustainability-

  • Reducing the human interface with the wild animals and wild spaces
  • Conserving natural habitats
  • Shifting towards sustainable choices in commercial production and domestic consumption
  • Motivating people to make a sustainable shift in their choices

Sustainability can be best defined as the maintenance of unbiased conditions across not only geographic and socioeconomic barriers but also across the eras and through time. It demonstrates that there is a path for society to prosper and progress along with maintaining the natural harmony of the planet. Sustainability helps in establishing the ideal balance between the environment and the people altogether.

Just like the pandemic has specific symptoms, the symptoms of the damaged natural harmony can be figured out by enhancing global temperatures, deforestation, and rising sea levels.

What sustainable changes we are witnessing during the second streak of a pandemic?

The whole world fought together with the first streak of the pandemic, but the second streak has come with a bang and with more devastation. Plenty of things have been changed since the first streak of pandemic whether it’s the perception of people towards life and nature. But, unfortunately, it couldn’t continue for the longest time and this is why the world is witnessing a more devastating streak of a pandemic.

Homeless have been brought indoors, people are making more honest efforts to stay in touch with their family and friends. The pandemic is certainly outrageous, the deaths are dreadful, and the isolation is suffocating, but the pandemic has brought the viewpoint to the routes our societies work.

By not going to the gym, sitting in our favourite coffee shop, or commuting to school or work are some of the examples that have helped in reducing emissions and energy consumption, and making the scenario a bit better with our efforts. This is how we can contribute towards the betterment of nature by adapting to sustainable choices and efforts.

Most of the companies have established methods to acclimate their employees with remote work policies, and alternatives for the conventional work setups that allowed the flow of productivity to continue in the same manner without the usual barriers.

This is what sustainability is all about. We need to listen to our inner voice. Your soul guides you the best than any other person, book, or perception. Just listen to your soul where spirituality flows flawlessly. If we start giving preference to sustainable choices, our world will become a better place, and we will be in a stronger mindset to combat any pandemic. Just be you and respect nature as you aspire for yourself.
